This was a decent book, and I learned a few takeaways about making gatherings more meaningful. I’d probably recommend it to my close friends with a caveat and a warning — I’m giving this book three stars because I found it challenging to relate to the author, who has a tendency to be braggadocious. Many of the anecdotes feel like they were included to let the reader know that the author is well-connected, and the book at times reads more like a “who’s-who” for the author’s social circle rather than a guide for helping others. I love this book. It speaks to my heart and soul. And I hope many will read it to experience better meetings, parties, and conferences. Priya Parker has the rare combination of a solid academic background, professional (mediation) experience, and intuition that enables her to analyze gatherings in a way I've never seen before. The lessons she draws from her observations are invaluable and she manages to translate them into clear how-tos for anyone wanting to host or manage friends, family, or their team. Bravo.
